Minx’s Diary, Day Eighteen
After following the nearly-hairless ones around throughout this new environment, I have been investigating every potential opaque portal for a way back to the Pegasus sector. So far, I’ve been unsuccessful. On the other paw, it’s not a bad location. The underpopulation of fellow felines – I thought – was a bad thing, but now I’m not so certain.
The nearly-hairless one with dark fur speaks to us in a high-pitched voice that approximates my own. I consider that she (it smells female) is modeling based on my behavior, which leads me to believe that these creatures are teachable. The one with pale fur moves too quickly for my comfort or Marmalade’s (everyone moves too fast for Athena), but is very indulgent in the food department. To my delight, there is a supply of soft food in this place. In the Pegasus sector, such dainties are reserved for the very young, the very old, or the infirm, as is decent but frustrating. I couldn’t believe my luck when he put out a spoonful for me. Marmalade refused hers, being a good soul who follows the strictures of our home planet, so when she turned her back, I ate it. I ate most of Athena’s, too. Her hissing is disconcerting, as we have continued to offer friendship.
Back to the portals. Every one in this location has incredibly interesting things behind it, but the one downstairs, next to the room that contains our sanitary facilities, is the most fascinating.
It’s full of boxes! And tables. And furniture in stacks. And more boxes. And appliances that hum. And bookshelves, although none of the tomes therein are written in cat. (Disappointing. I was hoping for something new to read.) It’s a very large chamber. I wasn’t too pleased with the floor, as it was cold on the paws, but I couldn’t resist exploring every inch and centimeter.
I have discovered a few tiny traces of shed fur, messages from previous feline inhabitants. It would seem that the humming portal that abducted us from Pegasus must have done it before – at least three times. I looked for indications that those earlier inhabitants were somewhere close by, but found none. Nor did I locate messages of distress from them. All signs point to a pleasant life, although restricted by these four walls. On the other paw, our kitten dormitory in the Pegasus sector also had four walls, to which we were restricted, and we turned out all right.
Just when my investigation was getting interesting, the pale-furred one intercepted me and swept me out of the fascinating chamber. I am determined to see all – no nearly-hairless one can stop me!
I will plot how to return there later. In the meanwhile, another spoonful of soft food was just offered. And where one exist, there are two more for me to enjoy.
Respectfully,
Minx “Exploration” Fawcett
